SUMMARY:FLUXNET-ECN Seminar Series: Alana Ayasse from Carbon Mapper
DESCRIPTION:Dear Flux communities\, \nWe are writing to invite you to participate in the forthcoming FLUXNET Seminar Series\, a community event co-sponsored by FLUXNET Early Career Network\, AmeriFlux Management Project (AMP)\, and members of the AmeriFlux and FLUXNET communities. \nIn this webinar we will hear from Alana Ayasse from Carbon Mapper on careers in non-profit organizations\, and what early careers need to know if considering joining this field. \nAlana Ayasse is a Research Scientist for Carbon Mapper. Alana’s current research interests include understanding the role of satellites in a global carbon monitoring system and using airborne remote sensing data to further understand trends in methane and CO2 emissions. She has worked extensively with Imaging spectrometers (hyperspectral) and specializes in applying imaging spectrometers to map greenhouse gases. She received her M.A. in Geography from UCLA and Ph.D. in Geography from the University of California\, Santa Barbara. \nCarbon Mapper\, Inc.\, is a non-profit (501c3) entity with a mission to deliver and guide the adoption of digital public goods that facilitate timely action to mitigate human impacts to Earth’s climate and ecosystems. Carbon Mapper recognizes there is an urgent need for a wide range of actions to accelerate methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) mitigation. Barriers to action include high costs for methane leak detection\, gaps in self-reported CO2 data\, incomplete observations of priority regions at scales relevant for decision making\, and lack of data accessibility and transparency. Through advanced satellite systems\, Carbon Mapper hopes to provide data to erase these barriers. Currently\, our airborne pilot projects are demonstrating the potential for an operational satellite data service that can help accelerate greenhouse gas mitigation. In this talk I will introduce Carbon Mapper and share results from ongoing airborne pilot projects. \nRegister here!

SUMMARY:7th ABoVE Science Team Meeting (ASTM7)
DESCRIPTION:Please mark your calendars for the 7th ABoVE Science Team Meeting (ASTM7)\, to be held virtually May 11th & 13th\, 2021. Our notion is for the sessions on Tuesday and Thursday to focus on plans for the field season and airborne remote sensing\, presentations from partner organizations\, updates from the Working Group leads\, and reports from the ongoing Synthesis Activities. There will be parallel sessions on each day to feature research highlights from individual projects. Each day will end with social hours for casual conversations. \nRegistration and abstract submission will open on 5 April. We especially encourage abstracts from early career researchers. Abstracts should be submitted no later than 19 April\, so that we have time to scope and organize the parallel sessions.

SUMMARY:AmeriFlux Town Hall at 2020 AGU Fall Meeting
DESCRIPTION:As of this writing in April 2020\, scientists in many countries are working under stay-at-home orders. Although the AmeriFlux network has strong virtual connectivity and ecosystem flux research continues apace\, 2020 brings a field (and education) season like no other. Therefore\, in addition to popular AmeriFlux town hall activities\, this year we are adding new activities. For the former\, come learn about opportunities for 2021 and news of the network. We will wrap up the first theme year\, on Methane\, and launch the next. Celebrate successes\, like honors to colleagues\, funding opportunities\, and new data products. Join a conversation with other flux scientists and chart priorities for the AmeriFlux Management Project (AMP). New for this year\, we’ll launch activities for mentoring\, connecting\, and collaborating—which can take place locally or virtually\, designed for people at different career levels\, experience with fluxes\, and locations across the Americas and world. These will include regional mini-workshops and facilitating peer-to-peer mentoring. The town hall will feature short\, structured interactions to strengthen and celebrate our connections. This town hall is hosted by AMP and attracts a broad audience of ecologists and Earth scientists\, early career and senior\, from around the world. See you there!
