SUMMARY:14th Annual Fluxcourse
DESCRIPTION:Dear Colleagues –  \nWe are now accepting applications for the next offering of the Fluxcourse – an immersive\, 2-week workshop in flux measurement\, synthesis\, and modeling for early career scientists. This year’s course will once again be hosted by the University of Colorado Moutain Research Station on beautiful Niwot Ridge\, Colorado\, USA. It will run from June 19th-30th\, 2023.  \nYou can learn more about the course from our website: http://www.fluxcourse.org/\nInstructions on how to apply can be found at: http://www.fluxcourse.org/apply-for-the-next-course.html \nApplications should be submitted by February 20th\, 2023 to ensure full consideration. Please feel free to reach out to me (Kim Novick\, knovick@indiana.edu) or Dave Moore (davidjpmoore@email.arizona.edu) with questions.  \nApologies for cross-postings.  \nCheers\,\nThe Fluxcourse Team

SUMMARY:Fluxcourse 2019
DESCRIPTION:Fluxcourse 2019 – 11th annual summer course in flux measurements and advanced modeling\n\nFluxCourse will be reconvening for its 11th year July 15-26\, 2019 at the University of Colorado Mountain Research Station. This popular course focuses on making eddy flux measurements and using flux data to quantify or model ecosystem-atmosphere exchanges and ecological processes. \nThe course is offered to 24 graduate students\, post-docs and early career scientists. Attendees will stay at the University of Colorado Mountain Research Station\, near Boulder\, Colorado\, USA (dormitory style accommodation). \nTopics include: flux measurements at the leaf & soil level; modeling leaf CO2 and H2O fluxes; eddy covariance measurements; predictions of fluxes from satellite observations; the synthesis of data provided by different networks (i.e. NEON and Ameriflux); canopy flux models; assimilation of flux observations and satellite remote sensing data into ecosystem process models; and Bayesian approaches to modeling. \nImportant Dates\n\nApplication Deadline: March 15\, 2019\nSelected Participants announced: April 1\, 2019\nFlux Course: July 15-26\, 2019\n\nFees covers attendance\, dorm accommodation\, and meals: $2\,850 \nTo Apply\n\nEmail a statement explaining why you want to participate in the course and how you anticipate it helping your research.\nInclude your CV with the statement.\nArrange to have your major adviser send a letter or email that supports your application.\n\nAsk your letter writer to— \n\nConfirm that you have approval/funds to attend the course.\nExplain why this course would be useful for you to attend.\nIf you’re applying for an AmeriFlux fellowship (see below)\, why you should receive it.\n\nAmeriFlux will support two attendees with fee waivers. To apply for an AmeriFlux Scholarship\, you must be part of the flux community in North America\, part of Ameriflux Network\, or NACP\, or make a case for another form of participation. Please indicate your wish to apply for the AmeriFlux Scholarship in your statement\, and explain why. Ask your major advisor to include an endorsement in their letter of support. \nPrevious Instructors\nInstructors vary each year. Here are some past instructors:  Dario Papale (University of Tuscia)\, Kim Novick (Indiana University)\, Abby Swann (University of Washington)\, Dennis Baldocchi (University of California)\, Carl Bernacchi\, Andy Leakey (University of Illinois)\, Dave Bowling (University of Utah)\, Ankur Desai (University of Wisconsin)\, Mike Dietze (Boston University)\, Deborah Huntzinger (Northern Arizona University)\, Larry Jacobsen (Campbell Scientific\, Inc.)\, Ray Leuning (CSIRO\, Australia)\, Andrew Fox (NCAR/University of Arizona)\, Hank Loescher (Battelle)\, Pat Morgan and George Burba (LI-COR Biosciences)\, Marcy Litvak (Univ New Mexico)\, Russell Monson\, David Moore and Shirley Papuga (University of Arizona)\, Tristan Quaife (Reading University)\, Dave Schimel (NASA JPL)\, Paul Stoy (Montana State)\, Ed Swiatek (Campbell Scientific\, Inc.)\, Diane Pataki (UC Irvine)\, John Zobitz (Augsburg College). \n  \nMore info on the Fluxcourse website.
