SUMMARY:2024 Plant Hydraulics Workshop (apply by March 1)
DESCRIPTION:2024 Plant Hydraulics Methods Workshop\, July 16-20\, Highlands Biological Station\, Highlands NC \nSome in our community may be interested in this workshop on Plant Hydraulics Methods happening this summer in beautiful western North Carolina\, USA. The initiative is led by Dan Johnson (U. of Georgia)\, and it is a follow-up to a very successful and similar workshop first offered in 2017. This time\, it is sponsored by PSInet and will include some instruction in approaches for fusing plant\, tree\, and ecosystem-scale (e.g. from flux towers) data. \nPotential Topics:\nSample collection\, storage and preparation\nLeaf Pressure-Volume curves and measurement of leaf water potential\nMeasurements of hydraulic conductance and conductivity\nMeasurements of xylem vulnerability to embolism\nWhole-tree water use: sap flow and eddy covariance methods\nActive xylem staining\nOptical dendrometry \nThe workshop will be held at the Highlands Biological Station (HBS; https://highlandsbiological.org/). All housing and catered lunches and dinners will be covered by the workshop funds and up to $700 in travel reimbursement will be available to all attendees. There are full kitchens in each housing unit where attendees can make breakfast\, coffee\, etc. and there is a grocery store that is less than a ten minute walk from the station. \nGetting to the workshop \nAttendees should fly into Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta airport (ATL) with an arrival of no later than 6 pm on July 16th. Shuttles will be waiting at the Atlanta airport to transport attendees to HBS. Shuttles will depart HBS at 7 am on July 20th to take attendees back to ATL. Departing flights should be scheduled to take off at noon or later on July 20th. \nApplications – A one-page statement of interest and a current CV should be sent to Dan Johnson (danjohnson@uga.edu) by March 1\, 2024. Applicants will be notified if they have been accepted by April 1\, 2024. \nInstructors – Dan Johnson\, University of Georgia\nJessica Guo\, University of Arizona\nBill Hammond\, University of Florida\nKate McCulloh\, University of Wisconsin\nChris Oishi\, US Forest Service

SUMMARY:11th International Carbon Dioxide Conference (ICDC11)
DESCRIPTION:This is to let you know that the 11th International Carbon Dioxide Conference (ICDC11) will be hosted in Manaus\, Brazil from 29 July to 2 August 2024\, at the Vasco Vasques Convention Center. ICDC11 was originally planned for 2021 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent logistical challenges. Manaus was selected to allow visitors to experience a taste of the Amazon\, a region central to understanding the global carbon cycle. \nThe Deadline to submit an Abstract is March 1st\, 2024.\nVisit the conference website for more info\nhttps://eventos.galoa.com.br/icdc-2024/page/3731-home \nTaking place in the heart of Amazon\, amidst an El Niño\, and on the heels of the first Global Stocktake\, ICDC11 represents an important opportunity to consider how improved understanding of terrestrial and oceanic carbon fluxes can inform carbon management and mitigation policy. The conference will provide the platform to have a dialogue between communities focused on understanding our latest science\, technological capabilities and the needs\, priorities and open questions of the policy and management communities. \nAt ICDC11\, in-person attendance is highly encouraged\, as interactive virtual participation may be difficult. Some degree of hybrid plenary engagement is being investigated\, but internet bandwidth may limit this. Further information about the venue\, website\, abstract and registration due dates will be provided shortly. Please save the date for this exciting and important conference. \nIn addition\, the 22nd WMO/IAEA Meeting on Carbon Dioxide\, Other Greenhouse Gases and Related Measurement Techniques (GGMT-2024) will take place the following week\, in São Jose dos Campos (São Paulo state). \nIf you are interested in attending the conference\, please fill out the form here: https://forms.gle/pXUx4vv8Uatdaz3C9 \nICDC11 Organizing Committee \nLuciana Gatti\, John Miller\, David Schimel\, Peter Rayner and Abhishek Chatterjee \nThe Deadline to submit an Abstract is March 1st\, 2024.\nVisit the conference website for more info\nhttps://eventos.galoa.com.br/icdc-2024/page/3731-home \n
