SUMMARY:PANGEA DC Workshop (register by Feb 16!)
DESCRIPTION:PANGEA is one of two scoping studies selected by NASA’s Terrestrial Ecology (TE) Program. PANGEA aims to work with tropical scientists and partners and the remote sensing community to outline a future NASA field campaign focused on the tropics. \n> Dear Colleagues\,\n>\n> We are very excited for 2024 and the opportunities ahead to connect and engage with you all through this scoping study process.\n>\n> Save the Date: 9-11 April 2024\n> We will be hosting a 2.5 day workshop in Washington D.C. from April 9-11\, 2024. This will be a hybrid event (in person and fully remote options) intended to engage with researchers and partners broadly working in the tropics. If you are interested in attending\, please complete this Registration Form by February 16\, 2024. The workshop venue and agenda are forthcoming in February. \n> The purpose of this 2.5-day workshop is to:\n>\n> 1. Share information about the scoping process with the broader research community early enough in the process for feedback and engagement.\n>\n> 2. Solicit feedback on the campaign design\, including the science questions and geographic scope.\n>\n> 3. Identify and discuss existing efforts that align with the potential campaign.\n>\n> If NASA selects this study\, they will commit significant funds to a multi-year field effort aimed at improving our understanding of the tropics via integrated measurements across spatial scales (e.g.\, plot\, tower\, drone\, aircraft\, and satellite). For more details\, please review the recording of our recent webinar we held\, please follow this link.\n>\n> There is no guarantee that this campaign will be funded. We are hoping you will join us early in the scoping process to define what this campaign should look like and identify opportunities for further engagement. You can find more information about this effort at our website: https://tropicalforestscoping.com/\n>\n> If you are interested in attending the workshop in-person and require a letter of invitation and/or travel support\, please read the following directions carefully:\n>\n> We will have limited funding available to support participant travel and the meeting will be hybrid for remote participants. If you are interested in attending the DC Workshop in person and would like to request travel support\, please complete the Registration Form and indicate your request for funding support in field #8 “Do you need funding support to attend this workshop?” and a brief description in field #9 as soon as possible and we will be in touch with you if there are funds available to arrange your travel. We will follow up with participants individually to provide an official letter of invitation and/or to coordinate travel.\n>\n> Note: We have limited funding available to support travel. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated to expedite the process. Funding support for travel comes from NASA that will support participants from US institutions. In addition\, we have some funding from a variety of sources that will support participants from tropical countries. Unfortunately we do not anticipate substantial funding for participants from wealthy nations outside of the tropics and the US.\n>\n> We sincerely appreciate your cooperation as we look forward to the PANGEA workshop in Washington DC. The workshop venue and agenda will be forthcoming in early February. Please use the field provided in the Registration Form to submit comments\, suggestions\, and other input.\n>\n> Thank you so much for your interest and cooperation. We look forward to working with you!\n>\n> Sincerely\,\n>\n> Isaac N. Aguilar
