SUMMARY:Special Issue: Machine Learning in Forest Ecosystem Sciences
DESCRIPTION:The journal Forests [IF: 3.282 (ISSN 1999-4907)] is going to publish a Special Issue on “Machine Learning Methods in Forest Ecosystem Sciences”. \nIn recent years\, the development and application of machine learning methods have gained a great deal of attention. This Special Issue aims to provide a selection of contributions about machine learning methods used in the field of forest ecosystem sciences: meteorological modeling; the quantification of carbon\, water\, and energy cycles climate impact assessments; canopy structure analyses; species distribution models; or assessments of wildfire hazard or pest and disease hazards\, to name a few. \nYou can find detailed information about the Special Issue at the following link: https://www.mdpi.com/journal/forests/special_issues/6T1GT537J1 \nAccepted papers will be immediately published\, without the need to wait for the closure of the entire Special Issue. If the Special Issue has published 10 papers\, and a reprint book version may be published after the Special Issue is closed. All published papers in the reprint book will reach a wide audience through our free and unlimited access platform (https://www.mdpi.com/books/search?type_books=bookReprint&selectJournal=forests). \nThe submission deadline for manuscripts is 10 July 2023.

SUMMARY:FLUXNET Annual Meeting – 2023 in Brno\, Czech Republic
DESCRIPTION:The FLUXNET Community Council is very excited to announce the first FLUXNET conference in over five years. Please save the date (July 11-13th 2023) and plan to join us in Brno\, Czech Republic. The meeting will be held in-person\, with remote virtual participation options\, and is graciously hosted by our colleagues at Czech Globe – Global Change Research Institute CAS and Mendel University in Brno and sponsored by Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) . We are planning plenary talks\, breakout sessions and hands-on workshops\, and are excited to bring the FLUXNET community together.

SUMMARY:Linking Optical and Energy Fluxes Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Greetings\, Flux community! \nPlease save the date for the workshop on linking optical and energy fluxes. \nMore details will be shared soon via mailing lists and in the event page: \nLinking Optical and Energy Fluxes Workshop \n \nPlease share this widely! \nLinking Optical and Energy Fluxes Workshop \nRemote sensing can help scientists interpret carbon\, water\, and energy flux measurements at eddy covariance sites by providing contextual information on community composition and vegetation function\, as well as scale fluxes globally. Additionally\, flux data can inform remote sensing measurements which do not directly measure carbon and water fluxes. \nWorkshop goals: \nBuild awareness of the existing synergies\, challenges\, and opportunities between remote sensing and flux science.\nFoster new cross-disciplinary connections to identify and address knowledge gaps and uncertainties associated with both flux and remote sensing data.\nIncrease the accessibility\, usability\, and standardization of remote sensing data so that it can be used to inform flux data\, following the FAIR principles. \nAttendance:\nApplications for in-person attendance are forthcoming Zoom/virtual options available. \nWhen:\nJuly 12-15\, 2023 \nWhere:\nUniversity of Colorado Boulder\nMountain Research Station Colorado\, USA
