SUMMARY:NCAR-NEON Workshop on modeling and data visualization tools
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce the next installment in our series of NCAR-NEON Workshops focused on linking the geosciences and ecology. This year’s workshop will focus on using NCAR-NEON modeling and data visualization tools to develop new research avenues and obtain feedback on how this collaboration can best serve the community going forward. The workshop will include presentations\, tutorials\, and working group sessions aimed at developing early-career projects leveraging NCAR-NEON tools. Additional agenda information forthcoming. \nThis will be an in-person workshop at NCAR Mesa Lab in Boulder\, CO from May 31-June 2\, 2023. Virtual participation will be available\, but will be constrained to attending presentations and tutorials. \nFunding is available for attendee travel and lodging. \nThose interested in attending in-person must complete the Workshop Application by 5 pm MST\, Friday February 17th. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by March 10th. \nFor information on past workshops in this series and background on the NCAR-NEON-Community collaborations please visit our project webpage. \nPlease reach out to Mike SanClements (sanclements@battelle.org) and Gordon Bonan (bonan@ucar.edu) if you have additional questions and use the subject line “NCAR-NEON Workshop”. \nBest regards\, \nNCAR-NEON workshop steering committee

SUMMARY:14th Annual Fluxcourse
DESCRIPTION:Dear Colleagues –  \nWe are now accepting applications for the next offering of the Fluxcourse – an immersive\, 2-week workshop in flux measurement\, synthesis\, and modeling for early career scientists. This year’s course will once again be hosted by the University of Colorado Moutain Research Station on beautiful Niwot Ridge\, Colorado\, USA. It will run from June 19th-30th\, 2023.  \nYou can learn more about the course from our website: http://www.fluxcourse.org/\nInstructions on how to apply can be found at: http://www.fluxcourse.org/apply-for-the-next-course.html \nApplications should be submitted by February 20th\, 2023 to ensure full consideration. Please feel free to reach out to me (Kim Novick\, knovick@indiana.edu) or Dave Moore (davidjpmoore@email.arizona.edu) with questions.  \nApologies for cross-postings.  \nCheers\,\nThe Fluxcourse Team

SUMMARY:9th International Symposium on Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gases (NCGG9)\, Amsterdam
DESCRIPTION:Ninth International Symposium on Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gases\nIdentify game changers and verify impact\nJune 21-23\, 2023\, Amsterdam\, The Netherlands \nNon-CO2 greenhouse gases include many substances\, such as methane (CH4)\, nitrous oxide (N2O)\, fluorocarbons (CFCs\, HFCs\, SF6\, etc)\, black carbon\, aerosols\, and tropospheric ozone (O3). These contribute significantly to climate forcing. Reducing non-CO2 greenhouse gas emissions is often more cost-effective than reducing CO2 emissions. \nThe importance of this conference is increasing every new event as our window for action in the climate dossier is closing rapidly. Fortunately public awareness that we need to act now is growing. With that awareness “game changers“ are proposed that need scientific evaluation to distinguish realistic and valuable concepts from what is known in The Netherlands as “ride a bike in the sky” ideas. \nThe scope of NCGG9 will be to identify game changers and evaluate impact. The status of global affairs in terms of the non-CO2 GHG issues is evaluated with: \nobservation of the current state and trend in the atmosphere\, on multiple spatial scales;\nusing that information in models to integrate and upscale the available measurement data;\nrunning models for scenario analyses predictions;\nfeeding the results from measurements and models to inventories;\nuse inventories and models to inform and predict;\ndiscuss potential adaptation and mitigation options and policies;\nmake scenarios with social economic parameters and integrated environmental assessment;\ndiscuss the general picture and results with stakeholders\, to identify potential game changers with decision makers\, industry\, the financial & insurance sector\, NGOs and international organizations. \nWe will invite contributions with respect to four themes\, covering causes\, effects and solutions of the environmental problems associated with non-CO2 greenhouse gases. These contributions may report on science (from natural\, social\, technological or integrated sciences) and policy. \nFind more information on the conference page: https://www.ncgg.info/home
