DESCRIPTION:Dear Flux Community \nAmeriFlux is launching a new theme Year on Water Fluxes!  \nOn behalf of the AmeriFlux Science Steering Committee\, we would like to invite interested community members to a community Zoom meeting to help brainstorm ideas and to lead the initiative.   We will be forming an organizing committee and welcome volunteers.  \nWe would like to hold a virtual one-hour meeting to kick this effort off on March 1\, 9 am PST.    \nSome potential ideas we would like to discuss:\n– Special issue of Ag and Forest Met or other journal;\n– Sensor needs for the network\, and working with AMP to enhance measurements across the network (e.g.\, water table depth\, soil water potential)\n– ET synthesis workshop and other workshop and analysis topics\n– Remote Sensing\, NASA\, and AmeriFlux data/sites;\n– Special sessions at AGU\, AMS\, ESA\, AmeriFlux\, or other annual meetings.\n– Develop best practice documents for water cycle measurements;\n– Speaker series\n– Outreach and new partnerships (e.g.\, USDA\, watershed managers\,…)\n– Education modules\n–  Your ideas! \nThe meeting will be recorded and made available on the AmeriFlux Youtube Channel.

SUMMARY:AmeriFlux Town Hall at 2020 AGU Fall Meeting
DESCRIPTION:As of this writing in April 2020\, scientists in many countries are working under stay-at-home orders. Although the AmeriFlux network has strong virtual connectivity and ecosystem flux research continues apace\, 2020 brings a field (and education) season like no other. Therefore\, in addition to popular AmeriFlux town hall activities\, this year we are adding new activities. For the former\, come learn about opportunities for 2021 and news of the network. We will wrap up the first theme year\, on Methane\, and launch the next. Celebrate successes\, like honors to colleagues\, funding opportunities\, and new data products. Join a conversation with other flux scientists and chart priorities for the AmeriFlux Management Project (AMP). New for this year\, we’ll launch activities for mentoring\, connecting\, and collaborating—which can take place locally or virtually\, designed for people at different career levels\, experience with fluxes\, and locations across the Americas and world. These will include regional mini-workshops and facilitating peer-to-peer mentoring. The town hall will feature short\, structured interactions to strengthen and celebrate our connections. This town hall is hosted by AMP and attracts a broad audience of ecologists and Earth scientists\, early career and senior\, from around the world. See you there!

DESCRIPTION:AsiaFlux2020 Poster \n\nAsiaFlux2019 has just celebrated its 20th Anniversary in Takayama\, Japan last 2nd October 2019. We are very honoured and excited to host the next AsiaFlux 2020 – 22nd – 24th September 2020 in Kuching Sarawak MALAYSIA\n\n\n\nAsiaFlux is a regional research network bringing together scientists from universities and institutions in Asia to study the exchanges of carbon dioxide\, water vapor\, and energy between terrestrial ecosystems and the atmosphere across daily to inter-annual time scales.\nIt is a highly specialized conference organized by the Malaysian Peat Society (MPS)\, Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute (TROPI) and AsiaFlux Scientific Steering Committee and co-organized by the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) and Hokkaido University. \n\nWith the central theme\, “Understanding Tropical & Subtropical Ecosystem Processes”. We are planning to have a special issue in Agricultural and Forest Meteorology to celebrate this special meeting. This special issue will consist of a collection of scientific reviews and papers resulting from presentations at the conference. In addition\, this special issue will be open for submissions of any papers which are relevant to the theme of the meeting. \n\nThe main aim is for this Conference to act as a platform to create awareness to the government\, the industries\, and the people especially potential young scientists from South East Asia such as Indonesia\, Philippines\, Thailand\, and Vietnam\, on the importance of GHG Cycling in guiding sustainable land use policies in the region.

SUMMARY:2020 NACP Open Science Meeting POSTPONED!
DESCRIPTION:This meeting has been postponed!  TBD \nNACP have been monitoring the COVID-19 situation very closely\, and things continue to change rapidly. We have also been considering your concerns seriously. As you may know\, several cases of COVID-19 infection have been identified in the Washington\, D.C. metro area over the weekend\, and many more organizations are implementing travel restrictions. We want all of our community members to be safe and to get the fullest benefit from the meeting so we are postponing to a later date sometime within 2020\, as yet to be determined\, but for planning purposes we feel this will most likely be Fall 2020(October or November). \nWe had considered doing a virtual-only meeting at the originally scheduled time\, but organizing something like that on such short notice would be a significant task. We also feel that because this community and stakeholders meet so infrequently\, allowing for in-person interactions is an important aspect. Many people have also suggested offering virtual options in the future for reduction of carbon footprints and to accommodate those who cannot travel\, so for the later date the Meeting Planning Committee will investigate these options. \n\nThings to do now:\n• UCAR will be reimbursing all paid registration fees automatically in the next week. As of April 2019\, the network has 425 eddy covariance sites arrayed across North\, Central\, and South America. Come hear about new AmeriFlux sites in the Amazon. Speaking of cows\, we are now well into our first theme year for network action: The Year of Methane. To enhance the quality and visibility of methane-flux science\, the AmeriFlux Management Project (AMP) is providing technical\, data\, and community support\, including LI-7700 instrument loaners and a flux-data portal. We are also hosting open workshops with the Global Carbon Project’s methane synthesis project\, Coastal Carbon RCN\, and others. On the CO2 front: come learn about the next generation of flux synthesis products (and the new open access code\, ONEFlux) and the international preparation for the next FLUXNET synthesis data release. SUMMARY:AmeriFlux Decadal Synthesis Workshop—Berkeley
DESCRIPTION:Registration is now closed. If you have questions\, contact Trevor Keenan\, Chair for this meeting. \nThis workshop will focus on decadal synthesis\, combined with the integration of flux measurements with other data sources (remote sensing\, inventories\, tree rings\, phenology\, etc.). We will also explore priorities for future eddy-covariance research\, and outline a general synthesis of advances over the past decade. \nWe envisage that this workshop will provide opportunities for new synthesis groups to form and grow. Time for these discussions will be set aside. Organizers for this workshop: Chair Trevor Keenan\, and Co-Chairs Dave Moore and Ankur Desai. \nNote: For this workshop\, AmeriFlux Management Project is covering costs for space\, refreshments and logistical support. AMP will also be able to offer limited support for travel awards for those in need. It will be held at Berkeley Lab. Most attendees should expect to cover their own expenses for travel and lodging.
