SUMMARY:AmeriFlux Town Hall at 2020 AGU Fall Meeting
DESCRIPTION:As of this writing in April 2020\, scientists in many countries are working under stay-at-home orders. Although the AmeriFlux network has strong virtual connectivity and ecosystem flux research continues apace\, 2020 brings a field (and education) season like no other. Therefore\, in addition to popular AmeriFlux town hall activities\, this year we are adding new activities. For the former\, come learn about opportunities for 2021 and news of the network. We will wrap up the first theme year\, on Methane\, and launch the next. Celebrate successes\, like honors to colleagues\, funding opportunities\, and new data products. Join a conversation with other flux scientists and chart priorities for the AmeriFlux Management Project (AMP). New for this year\, we’ll launch activities for mentoring\, connecting\, and collaborating—which can take place locally or virtually\, designed for people at different career levels\, experience with fluxes\, and locations across the Americas and world. SUMMARY:European Geoscience Union 2020 Meeting CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe EGU is officially announcing the cancellation of the physical EGU General Assembly 2020 in Vienna\, Austria. \nBecause the Union is committed to minimising the impact of COVID-19 on scientific research and collaboration\, we believe EGU has a responsibility and a duty to ensure these activities continue despite the current\, extreme circumstances. We have therefore decided to host EGU2020: Sharing Geosciences Online (#shareEGU20)\, a week-long series of online activities held during the first week of May that support our community by fostering scientific communication. \nEGU2020: Sharing Geosciences Online will allow abstract authors to share presentation materials and open these for live discussion as well as participate in a selection of online networking events. We are also planning additional activities that will extend into the rest of the year and will provide more information about all of these events in the coming weeks. \nFor answers to pressing logistical questions regarding the cancellation\, please refer to this list of frequently asked questions. We look forward to virtually meeting during the online activities of EGU2020 and welcoming you in person to Vienna from 25–30 April 2021 at the next face-to-face General Assembly! \nAlberto Montanari\, EGU President\nSusanne Buiter\, EGU Programme Committee Chair

SUMMARY:2020 NACP Open Science Meeting POSTPONED!
DESCRIPTION:This meeting has been postponed!  TBD \nNACP have been monitoring the COVID-19 situation very closely\, and things continue to change rapidly. We have also been considering your concerns seriously. As you may know\, several cases of COVID-19 infection have been identified in the Washington\, D.C. metro area over the weekend\, and many more organizations are implementing travel restrictions. We want all of our community members to be safe and to get the fullest benefit from the meeting so we are postponing to a later date sometime within 2020\, as yet to be determined\, but for planning purposes we feel this will most likely be Fall 2020(October or November). \nWe had considered doing a virtual-only meeting at the originally scheduled time\, but organizing something like that on such short notice would be a significant task. We also feel that because this community and stakeholders meet so infrequently\, allowing for in-person interactions is an important aspect. Many people have also suggested offering virtual options in the future for reduction of carbon footprints and to accommodate those who cannot travel\, so for the later date the Meeting Planning Committee will investigate these options. \n\nThings to do now:\n• UCAR will be reimbursing all paid registration fees automatically in the next week. There is no need to take further action. \n• Please cancel your other travel arrangements if you made them individually. • The easiest way to cancel the hotel is to call: \n• Hilton 1-800-774-1500 \n• Hilton McLean direct 703 847-5000 \n• Hilton Honors (if you used your HH number) \n• If you are an invited speaker and you made your travel arrangements through ICF – they will take care of canceling flights and train tickets that were booked through their travel agency. \n• Keep an eye out for our future notices and updates regarding this meeting on the rescheduled date! \n\n\n\n\n\n
