SUMMARY:3rd ICOS Annual Workshop - 2015 - Sweden
DESCRIPTION:ICOS Sweden Annual Workshop 2015 focuses on fresh water and marine water as sinks and sources for atmospheric greenhouse gases. The workshop takes place at 17-18 August 2015 in Visby\, Sweden\, and includes a field visit to the measurement station on Östergansholm island and surroundings. Deadline for registration and abstract submission is 1 June 2015. See pdf-flyer for details. To give an oral presentation and/or a poster presentation\, send an abstract (max half-page) by 1 June to scientific.coordinator@icos-sweden.se. \nICOS RI ‐ Integrated Carbon Observation System Research Infrastructure‐ is a European research infrastructure to quantify and understand the greenhouse gas balance of the European continent and of adjacent regions. ICOS is a collaboration of 17 European countries and provides long‐term observations (20+ years). \nICOS Sweden is the Swedish contribution to this European effort and is a cooperation of Lund University (host)\, University of Gothenburg\, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences\, Stockholm University\, Uppsala University\, and Swedish Polar Research Secretariat. The measurement sites are located at seven different sites\, from north to south: Abisko‐Stordalen (subarctic mire)\, Degerö (boreal mire)\, Svartberget (boreal pine and spruce forest)\, Norunda (boreal pine and spruce forest)\, Östergarnsholm (marine station)\, Lanna (agricultural land)\, and Hyltemossa (boreal spruce forest). \nOrganizers: Maj-Lena Linderson\, ICOS Sweden Scientific Coordinator\, and Anna Rutgersson\, PI for the Östergarnsholm station \nMore information on ICOS RI: http://icos-infrastructure.eu/\nMore information on ICOS Sweden: http://www.icos-sweden.se/ \nFlyer: ICOS_WS_2015

SUMMARY:2015 ESA Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Ecological Science at the Frontier: Celebrating ESA’s Centennial\nThe Ecological Society of America currently stands at a boundary between 100 successful years for the Society and an uncharted future for the planet. The Centennial meeting will support both retrospective and prospective sessions – looking back at the history of the field of ecology as well as forward into its future. We welcome proposals examining historical topics and the history of ecology\, as well as proposals from early career scientists and students that shine a light on the future of ecological science. Proposals that explore interdisciplinary connections with areas of social and natural science outside of ecology or that relate to ecological education at any level are also encouraged.

SUMMARY:Methods in Environmental Data Acquisition: Remote Data Acquisition (RDA) Sensor Training Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Applications are now being accepted for the 2015 offering of our Methods in Environmental Data Acquisition short course\, otherwise known as the Remote Data Acquisition (RDA) Sensor Training Workshop (http://sevfs.unm.edu/courses/rda/). \nThis intensive course will be held 14-21 June 2015 and is hosted by the University of New Mexico Sevilleta Field Station in beautiful central New Mexico. By using a combination of field demonstrations\, lectures\, hands-on activities\, and discussions\, we will cover several topics fundamental to the remote acquisition of environmental sensor data: \n\nBasic electronics\nPhotovoltaic power for remote instrumentation\nTCP/IP networking and Wi-Fi telemetry systems\nSensor theory and Campbell Scientific datalogger wiring and programming\n\nThis year\, we are offering two optional post-course field trips on Saturday\, June 20th. We anticipate these field trips will enhance the overall experience of participants. \nThe number of participants we will be able to accommodate is limited. While preference will be given to technicians\, graduate students\, postdoctoral associates\, and early career faculty who demonstrate research needs in one or more of these areas\, anyone interested in the topic of remote environmental sensor data acquisition is encouraged to apply. \nPlease visit our website (http://sevfs.unm.edu/courses/rda) for more detailed information about topics covered\, field trips\, and course fees. If you have any questions\, please feel free to email me directly. \nThank you for your interest and we look forward to hearing from you!\nRenee\n——-\nSevilleta LTER & Sevilleta Field Station\nDepartment of Biology\nUniversity of New Mexico

SUMMARY:AmeriFlux Town Hall at AGU Fall 2014—Tuesday
DESCRIPTION:The AmeriFlux Network—looking to 2015 (Moscone West\, Room 2004)\nJoin us to hear about news about the network (such as new synthesis activities) and AMP activities (new data products\, QA/QC services)\, and more. Come and exchange ideas\, learn about opportunities (or announce them)\, and create new ones.\nThe AmeriFlux network links ecosystem-flux and process-scale studies across the Americas. The DOE AmeriFlux Management Project (AMP; ameriflux.lbl.gov) serves the community of flux sites and data users and its primary objectives are to maximize the quality of AmeriFlux data and its use by a broad community\, to expand the network’s role as a virtual facility for basic research and Earth System Model (ESM) improvement\, and to facilitate innovative measurements and synthesis.
